Betty Halverson 2nd & 3rd Grades
August 15, 2008
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Hello, and welcome to 2nd Grade! I am so excited about the journey we will be taking together this year! We will have a year full of wonder, learning, and LOTS of reading! I can't wait!
Let me tell you about myself. I grew up in Minnesota, and graduated from high school in the small town of New Prague. I then attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. My Concentration is in Early Childhood Education. The focus of the Concentration is two of my favorite things - literacy (reading and writing) and young children!
After graduation I taught for two years in a preschool setting, working primarily with four-year-olds, and getting them ready for kindergarten. Knowing that I wanted to work with elementary students, I pursued that and was hired to teach first grade in a Phoenix school district. I taught first grade for five years up in Phoenix. During those five years I was a teacher mentor, grade level lead, and received the honor of Teacher of the Year at my school.
While living the five years in Phoenix, I often thought about moving to a small town again. The timing was right; there was a second grade position open here in Ajo! I come to Ajo with a strong academic background, and seven years of experience working with children in a learning environment.
In my free time I spend time reading pretty much everything. I love antiquing, and am drawn to things from the Victorian Era. Mostly I look and don't buy! I enjoy rubber stamping cards, scrapbooking, and other crafts. I also have fun spending time with my dog.
I look forward to meeting with you, and working with you to help your child reach his or her full potential! Together, we will do great things this year!
