      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to adopt the agenda as presented. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    Visitors are welcome to speak on non-agenda items. Comments are limited to 3 minutes. Please state your name and address prior to making your comments. The Board will not take any legal action on issues raised during this position of the meeting.

    Paul Crawford - 240 Esperanza
    Currently listed as a "field trip/sports trip" driver for the Ajo Unified School District. Has taken a full time position driving for Olsen's Market. Maybe unavailable to drive, wanted to let the Board know. Enjoys driving for the school, an will do so when ever he can.

      Mrs. Runge made the motion to approve the Consent Agenda. Mr. Byrnes seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

  5. Business

    1. Out of Fiscal Year Invoice

      ETA Cuisenaire submitted a bill for $333.65 for items purchased during the 2008/2009 school year. Due to the fact that this is payment after the fiscal year closed, Board permission is required for payment.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve the above out of year invoice. Mrs. Cameron seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    2. Out of Fiscal Year Invoice

      Mistakenly, $997.50 of work was completed in June of 2009. This was not paid before the end of the fiscal year. The administration is requesting that this be paid in 2010.

      Mrs. Cameron mad the motion to approve the above out of year invoice/payroll. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    3. Permission to Seek Bids for Campus Lighting

      The Administration is seeking permission to advertise for bids for campus lighting. The proposed "street light" style of lighting will provide additional lighting for both parking lots, visitor parking, along Well Road, and the area between the school office and the district office, and the areas outside the football stadium.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to allow the Administration to seek bids for campus lighting. Mrs. Cameron seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    4. Reinstatement of 50% of Custodial Position

      In March the Board prioritized budget cuts to enable the district to operate within the potentially limited resources for the 09/10 budget. At that time, we reduced our Night Custodian staff by one person. We are asking the Board to authorize the Administration to reinstate ½ of the position that was eliminated.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve the reinstatement of 50% of the above positions. Mrs. Cameron seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    5. Donation of Vehicles for JTED AHS Shop Class

      Three separate individuals have donated vehicles to the High School Shop Class.

      Elsa Peterson - 87 Oldsmobile sedan
      Christina Valenzuela - 89 Cadillac 4 door sedan

      Mrs. Runge made the motion to accept the above donation. Mr. Byrnes seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    6. Donation to AHS Science Class

      Terrance Orr, a retired Science Teacher, has donated a 16 foot python skin to the High School Science Class.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve the above donation. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    7. Donation from Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold

      Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold has donated $2,000 to the Ajo Unified School District athletics fund.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve the above donation. Mrs. Cameron seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    1. Certified Employment - Substitute Teacher - Jesus Rubalcava

      Jesus Rubalcava has been interviewed and reference checks completed for the position of substitute teacher

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve the employment of Mr. Rubalcava as a substitute teacher. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    2. Certified Employment - Substitute Teacher - Armando Hernandez

      Armando Hernandez has been interviewed and reference checks completed for the position of certified substitute teacher.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve the employment of Mr. Hernandez as a substitute teacher. Mrs. Cameron seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    3. Certified Employment - Substitute Teacher - William Reid

      William Reid has been interviewed and reference checks completed for the position of certified substitute teacher.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve the employment of William Reid as a substitute teacher. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    4. Declaration of Vacancy - Cynthia Wells

      Cynthia Wells, a paraprofessional, did not return to duty on August 11, 2009. She has not responded to telephone or certified mail regarding her return to work. The Administration is requesting this position be declared vacant.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to declare the above position vacant. Mr. Byrnes seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    5. Employment of 50% Custodial Position - Carmen Sanford

      This position was advertised in-house. The applicant who is being recommended, Carmen Sanford, is currently a part time employee.

      Mr. David made the motion to approve Mrs. Sanford for the above 50% custodial position. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    6. Classified Employment - Substitute Teacher's Aide - Cindy Peterson

      Cindy Peterson has been interviewed and reference checks completed for the position of classified substitute teacher's aide.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve the employment of Mrs. Peterson as a substitute teacher's aide. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    7. Classified Employment - Substitute Teacher's Aide - Antonia Carrera

      Antonia Carrera has been interviewed and reference checks completed for the position of classified substitute teacher's aide.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve the employment of Mrs. Carrera as a substitute teacher's aide. Mr. David seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    8. Extra Pay Position - Varsity Basketball Coach - Bradley Harvey

      Brad Harvey, High School Social Studies Teacher, has submitted a letter to be considered for the Varsity Basketball Coach.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve Mr. Harvey as the Boy's Varsity Basketball Coach. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    9. Extra Pay Position - Asst. Boy's Basketball Coach - Jesus Banuelos

      Jesus Banuelos, a Pima County Sherriff's Deputy, has submitted a letter to be considered for the position of Asst. Boy's Basketball Coach

      Mr. David made the motion to approve Mr. Banuelos as the Boy's Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    10. Extra Pay Position - Asst. Girl's Basketball Coach - Elizabeth Zinky

      Elizabeth Zinky has submitted a letter to be considered for the position of Assistant Girl's Basketball Coach.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve Ms. Zinky as the Asst. Girl's Basketball Coach. Mrs. Cameron seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    11. Extra Pay Position - Asst. Track Coach - Joanna Higgins

      Joanna Higgins, a 4th grade teacher - has submitted a letter to be considered for the Assistant Track Coach.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve Mrs. Higgins as the Assistant Track Coach. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    12. Extra Pay Position - Junior Class Sponsor - Oscar Sisk

      Oscar Sisk, Middle School Math Teacher, has submitted a letter to be considered for the Jr. Class Sponsor.

      Mr. Byrnes made the motion to approve Mr. Sisk as the 09/10 Jr. Class Sponsor. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    13. Extra Pay Position - Sophomore Class Sponsor - David Kasper

      David Kasper, has submitted a letter to be considered for the Sophomore Class Sponsor.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve Mr. Kasper as the 09/10 Sophomore Class Sponsor. Mr. Byrnes seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    14. Extra Pay Position - Freshman Class Sponsor - Melissa Zanot

      Melissa Zanot, a High School English Teacher, has submitted a letter to be considered for the Freshman Class Sponsor.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve Melissa Zanot as the 09/10 Freshman Class Sponsor. Mrs. Runge seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

    15. Classified Resignation - Cafeteria Worker - Maura Arizqueta

      Maura Arizqueta, a cafeteria Yorker, has submitted her resignation effective September 14, 2009.

      Mrs. Cameron made the motion to approve Mrs. Arizqueta's resignation. Mr. Byrnes seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0.

Noting no other business before the Board, Mrs. Runge, Acting President of the Board, adjourned the meeting at 6:11 p.m.
